Wilson Trash Trap Initiative

Troop 8 has signed up as a monthly service provider with at least a one year commitment to remove debris and litter from our community’s waterways.

Every month our Troop has a direct impact in improving the local environment and our drinking water while also helping to prevent local flooding. Our Scouts are able to make a positive difference in our environment as well as to the citizens of Wilson. Scouts learn the importance of environmental stewardship and conservation. Their actions not only make an immediate difference, but a long-term one for the betterment of our community.

Troop 8 Scouts routinely removes pounds and pounds of trash and debris from our local waterways each month. We sort and catalog the debris for Wilson officials and then recycle anything that can be recycled.

Some of the debris we have removed includes:

  • Plastic Bags

  • Aluminum cans

  • Plastic bottles

  • straws

  • construction materials

  • Styrofoam

  • Glass bottles and containers

  • Tires

  • Household appliances

Special thanks to The Wilson Times for photographs. Be sure to check out their article they wrote about our efforts!
